Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously visited PSU Hat Yai Campus on 16 January 2014. The royal entourage entered the university premises at 13:30, when Her Royal Highness kindly initiated the ceremony to respect His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songhkla, by gently placing a garland at the designated memorial. Next on the royal itinerary was a visit to the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiation of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Here, Her Royal Highness was humbly greeted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Perapong Tekasakul, Vice President for Research System and Graduate Studies, and other notable guests. The visit was enhanced by an informative outdoor exhibition regarding the conservation of local fauna and flora. Following the exhibition, Her Royal Highness was greeted respectfully at the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Natural History Museum, by the Museum’s director, faculty, staff and students.
An important aspect of this auspicious visit was the demonstration of biodiesel production at the Research and Development Center for Renewable Energy from Palm Oil and Vegetable Oil, headed by the Center’s director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chakrit Tong-urai, who on this occasion humbly presented Her Royal Highness the book “Continuous Biodiesel Production Process”. The highlight of the day was the royal inauguration of the new Sirindhorn Applied Research Building. Her Royal Highness kindly initiated the ceremony by revealing a purple-satin-covered memorial plate on the building. Afterwards, the royal entourage headed to PSU Wittayanusorn School, to attend a ceremony of scholarship recipients under the Royal Jubilee and Royal Sponsorship Project. The school humbly presented their newly developed distance-learning system.
The final event of the day took place at the International Convention Center, where a spectacular gala dinner was organized in honor of Her Royal Highness. Top administrators and faculty attended the event, along with notable local and foreign dignitaries. Attendees had the honor to listen to the gracious musical performance of Her Royal Highness; a fitting culmination of this propitious day.
