Collaboration on Peace and Conflict Studies with Uppsala University


PSU had the honor receiving Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erik Melander, Deputy Director of the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, and Dr. Elin Bjarnegard, researcher and lecturer, Uppsala University (UU), Sweden, on October 22, 2012. They were welcomed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ram Yamsaengsung, Assistant President for International Affairs; Asst. Prof. Dr. Bussabong Chaijaroenwatana, Director of the Institute for Peace Studies; and Asst. Prof. Srisompob Jitpiromsri, Director of the Center for Conflict Studies and Cultural Diversity.

The main objective of the visit was to discuss collaboration on peace and conflict studies. The areas of collaboration discussed were: a collaborative survey in southern Thailand; collaborative research and analysis of peace-making, reconciliation, and causes of political violence in Sweden and Thailand; a staff exchange program on lecturing and developing curriculums; joint conferences, workshops, and outreach activities aimed at policy-makers and the media.

Prince of Songkla University and Uppsala University signed a Memorandum of Understanding at university level in August 2011, and during the meeting participants also discussed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the PSU Institute for Peace Studies and the UU Department of Peace and Conflict.
